Friday July 31, 2015Johnny J Jones Junior acted as Master of Ceremonies this morning on location at his “hoitsy-toitsy, magnificent” Midway at Fort Edmonton Park, where he hosted a Funding Announcement for the Government of Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program. Mr. Jones (aka Dana Andersen, Artistic Director) had the pleasurable task of introducing “a swell group of stand-up fellas”.

The Honourable Tim Uppal, Minister of State (Multiculturalism) announced funding for both Fort Edmonton Park, and Fort Heritage Precinct in Fort Saskatchewan.

Representing the City of Edmonton and Fort Edmonton Park (joint applicants to the Program) were Councilor Tony Caterina (Ward 7) and Doug Goss (Chair of the Fort Edmonton Management Company Board of Directors). In accepting the grant, Goss commented, “These funds will assist us in the first steps towards the future development of our 1920’s Midway as per the vision set out in the 2010 Fort Edmonton Master Plan.” In particular the grant will be used towards re-grading the Midway site, landscaping, a new entryway, a shooting gallery and the structure for a maze attraction.

Councillor Caterina expressed the City’s gratitude in being chosen as a recipient for this program and stated, “It is gratifying that with such assistance we are able to continue to expand upon the vision of our predecessors in building this wonderful facility which celebrates Edmonton’s early history.”

Fort Edmonton Park will receive $500,000 from the Program, which will be matched by the Park.
