Fort Edmonton Park is thrilled to be the 2017 recipient of the Robert R. Janes Award for Social Responsibility. It is an incredible honour and we want to thank the Alberta Museums Association as well as recognize our partners, the Métis Nation of Alberta and Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations.
The Selection Committee identified our commitment to embracing the values of and respect for Indigenous knowledge and experience along with our use of a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize the partnership with the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations and the Métis Nation of Alberta as being the foundations for the award. It was indicated that, “Fort Edmonton Park’s ongoing efforts to work collaboratively with local Indigenous groups firmly positions the Park as a leader in the field of social responsibility and will have a lasting impact on generations of visitors to the site.”
We are excited to formally accept the award this month when it is presented at the Alberta Museums Association Conference.
