Fort Edmonton Management Company (FEMCo) is in preliminary discussions on bringing a Nordic Spa to the River Valley! This new facility will offer visitors a chance to reconnect with themselves and the beauty of nature.
In partnership with the Edmonton Nordic Spa Ownership Group (ENSOG), FEMCo will be seeking Edmonton City Council approval on a lease agreement to use City-owned land to develop the facility. Through a sub-lease between FEMCo and ENSOG, the new facility would sit on the two acres of land that is a grassy area currently used as an overflow parking lot. The lot is located just outside the Park gates adjacent to the Fort Edmonton Park Administration Building.
This initiative is in the very preliminary stages, and the request to Council is only to approve the land lease agreement not to approve the build itself. If the lease agreement is approved, the next step would be a Site Location Study and Environmental Impact Assessment followed by stakeholder consultation.
This project adds to the bright future of Fort Edmonton Park. The development of the Nordic Spa directly aligns with the strategic plan for the Park. Announced in 2018, Fort Edmonton Management Company is embarking on an exciting new strategic direction for Fort Edmonton Park aimed at making the Park the premier cultural tourism attraction in Western Canada. The top three strategic priorities that will be focused on are relevant experiences, accessibility and ensuring the Park is financially sustainable. The Nordic Spa initiative supports all three of these pillars.
