Division Two Programs

Pioneer Activity Gr. 4 – 5
Get a taste of pioneer life. By role playing a teacher, an interpreter will keep students on task in learning the three R’s in the one room schoolhouse. Your students will cook bannock on a wood burning stove, create a candy treat, and examine artifacts from the past.

Aboriginal Adaptations Gr. 4 – 6
Bark used as a cast for a broken leg? What about a spruce cone for a sore throat? All across what is now Canada, First Nations groups adapted to their environment. Use your detective skills to investigate photos from the late 1800s and find out how each group used plants, animals, and other natural resources to survive. Then

Images of Governments Past Gr. 5 – 6
Does your class have a penchant for drama? By role-playing outraged citizens, loyal settlers, missionaries, and even the mayor, your students will resolve actual events pulled from our local history. Explore how individuals interacted with government in three different time periods.

History Immersion – Fort Edmonton Gr. 4 – 6
Immerse your students into Edmonton’s history through this customized program. Work with an interpreter to plan activities to meet your specific learning objectives. Themes and activities can include any combination of the following: fur trade, Aboriginal history, settlement times, early Edmonton, governments, cooking/baking, toy building and more! You design the program using Fort Edmonton Park’s resources.

Fur Trade Fort Tour Gr. 4 – 6
Children didn’t have to go to school back then? Boys became men when they were only 14? They didn’t take a bath all winter? These are just a few of the many questions on the minds of students taking part in this popular program.

Fur Trade Challenge Gr. 4 - 6
This program includes a tour of 1846 Fort Edmonton, along with two hands-on activities!

Fort Edmonton Park Sleepover Gr. 4 – 6
Wake up to the historic scenery of Fort Edmonton Park and see our city as the early residents of Edmonton viewed it. An interpreter will provide your group with a variety of learning experiences catered to your needs. In addition, you can cook your meals over the hearth or an old wood stove.

Wagon Rides Gr. 4 – 6
While travelling by wagon is primarily a hobby now, horse-drawn wagons have been transporting people and their belongings for centuries throughout the world. Fort Edmonton Park is pleased to offer this historical experience for your class, as a unique add-on to your booked program.

Time Traveller’s Tour Gr. 4 – 6
Walk through 150 years of Edmonton’s past and experience the fur trade, settlement and municipal eras. Students will experience the history of the community, its lifestyle, technology and culture.
